Conservatives select 20-year party veteran for Wellingborough and Rushden seat in upcoming General Election

The Conservatives have selected David Goss to represent the party for the Wellingborough and Rushden constituency in the upcoming election on July 4.

David Goss has held senior roles in the Department for International Trade, the City of London Corporation, and the police, believing this to bring ‘a wealth of experience’ to the role.

He said: “I am honoured to have the opportunity to represent Wellingborough and Rushden.

"I understand the challenges and opportunities our community faces, and I am committed to fighting for the issues that matter most to our residents, from healthcare and transportation to supporting local businesses. Together, we can build a brighter future for everyone in our constituency.”

David was born on a council estate and went to a state comprehensive school. His dad was employed as a van driver and his mum worked in a supermarket. David attended Loughborough University, and is currently a councillor on Buckinghamshire Council, serving the market town of Winslow, as well as being on its respective town council.

One of the ‘key components’ of his campaign is to secure the necessary funding to build a train station in Rushden, which will ‘enhance connectivity and economic opportunities’ in the area.

Others include protecting free parking, and advocating for the establishment of an urgent care centre at Isebrook Hospital, a key concern of the former MP of Wellingborough, Peter Bone.

Bone departed the seat after allegations of sexual misconduct and bullying surfaced, which triggered a by-election, won by Labour’s Gen Kitchen. David Goss will be hoping to reclaim the seat for the Conservatives who held it from 2005 until February this year.

It was possible that Helen Harrison, the Tory candidate during the by-election, would be the chosen candidate, however it was recently announced that she would be the Conservative's selection in East Thanet, a constituency which now encompasses South and North Thanet from previous elections.

David Goss, who currently lives in Finedon, will run against Christopher Townsend (Lib Dem), Paul Mannion (Green), Ben Habib (Reform UK), Jeremy Brittin (SDP), and the incumbent Gen Kitchen (Lab) when Britain heads to the polling stations on July 4.
