Delays through Rothwell cause by surface treatment works on A6 as roadworks continue

Motorists in Rothwell are experiencing severe delays as surface works on the A6 bypass are causing a diversion through Rothwell, which has been affected by further roadworks taking place at the top of the town towards Desborough.

The council’s highways contractor, Kier, is undertaking carriageway surface treatment works on the A6 Rothwell/Desborough bypass, meaning motorists are attempting to travelling through Rothwell and Desborough, but are being delayed by roadworks at the roundabout connecting Greening Road to Desborough Road, Rothwell.

Works to ‘help extend the life of the carriageway and improve the overall condition of the road for all users’ are taking place on the A6 today (October 27) and tomorrow, and as such the road will be closed during the hours of 9.30am until 3.30pm.

An update from Rothwell Town Council reads: “Access for residents will be maintained wherever it is safe and practical to do so. If you require access during the works, please speak with the site team, who will be happy to assist and advise on the safest opportunity to enter or leave the closure.

“Please be aware that short delays may be experienced while our operatives facilitate access. We appreciate your patience and understanding as these essential maintenance works are carried out.”

The roundabout in Rothwell was closed earlier this month by Anglian Water due to burst water mains in the area, and today roadworks are taking place, with traffic lights in both Greening Road and Desborough Road aiming to improve traffic flow.

The roadworks are impacting patients reaching Rothwell Surgery, as well as schoolchildren commuting to and from Montsaye Academy in Greening Road.

One parent, Lorraine Thurman, said: “I’m at my wits end and worrying how my son will safely get to school and home again from next week onwards.

“I’m surprised there hasn’t already been an accident here, as last week I witnessed children everyday trying to negotiate round the footpath.

“How anyone thought this was safe is beyond me.”
