Unbeaten Diamonds are becoming 'a bit of a scalp' in Midlands Division

Elliot Sandy believes AFC Rushden & Diamonds have become 'a bit of a scalp' in the Pitching-In Northern Premier League Midlands Division.

Diamonds will be out to maintain their unbeaten start in the league when they head to Belper on Saturday (ko 3pm), a side sitting two places and two points above them in the table - although Sandy's side have played four games fewer.

Add to that unbeaten tag the fact that Diamonds have also hit the headlines and excelled to reach the first round proper of the Emirates FA Cup, claiming some notable higher-level scalps along the way, and Sandy's men have something of a target on their backs.

And the Diamonds boss is expecting a difficult afternoon on Saturday, against a side he has a lot of respect for.

"Belper is a tough place to go, it is an excellent ground, an excellent set-up, and they have a really good manager who is used to being successful," Sandy told @AFCRD.

"He has put a good team together, and although they probably haven't had the start they wanted they have picked up a bit recently.

"I know they are going to want to beat us, and I think we come a bit of a scalp ourselves for teams when you are unbeaten, and obviously with the FA Cup run as well.

"They are going to lift their game, so we know we are going to have to really be at it to get something from the match.

"We will prepare right, and hopefully the lads can do that."

It's a big game for Diamonds, who could make real strides in the Midlands Division table with a win.

Three points would not only see them go above Belper, but also Boston Town, Loughborough Students and Mickleover, as none of them are playing.

So a win will see Diamonds definitely climb to ninth, and they could even go eighth if Bedworth slip up at home to Long Eaton United.
