Corby Liberal Democrats launch 'positive plan' for town to become 'powerhouse' of North Northamptonshire
Corby Liberal Democrats group has launched their 'positive plan' setting out a vision for the town to become the 'powerhouse' of North Northamptonshire.
Positive Plan for Corby sets out the Lib Dems’ comprehensive blueprint to continue Corby's ‘exceptional growth’.
The authors say the plan is written from the ‘town's point of view’ assessing what ‘Corby needs’ bringing together residents, community and resident associations, politicians, and the neighbouring parish councils of Weldon, Stanion, Little Stanion and Rockingham.
Corby Liberal Democrat Local Champion for Lloyds & Old Village Ward, Alex Lock said: “We cover off many things on the greater Corby area that is Corby and surrounding parishes including a core belief that we want to build more homes in Corby.

"With that we want to see a medical centre developed in Weldon, the northern orbital (road) continued, plans for a by-pass around Corby West SUE (Sustainable Urban Extension), a second SEND school to support Red Kite, buses in Corby and surrounding villages, utilising of pedestrian bridges as part of an expanded cycling system, and more.
"We really want to set ourselves apart from other parties in the area to establish a true plan to see Corby grow bigger and better than ever.”
The document states: “Crucially, this plan recognises that Corby is not one place but many. Lodge Park is not Hazel Leys. Oakley Vale is not the Old Village. “Each of the town's neighbourhoods, and each of the surrounding villages, has its own history, its own assets, and its own challenges. A one-size-fits-all approach would flatten those differences. That is why this plan makes the case for Neighbourhood Wards, smaller wards that match the communities people actually recognise, and for a named, dedicated police community support officer for every neighbourhood. The unit of this plan is the neighbourhood, because that is the unit at which people live.”
Corby Liberal Democrats have invited residents, businesses, community groups, parish councils, and other political parties to engage with the plan – and to take from it whatever they can deliver.
Mr Lock added: “This plan will be revised, updated, and improved through dialogue. It is our offer to Corby for the long term – an infrastructure-first, fairer, greener, and more connected future, with Corby at the centre of decisions about Corby and every neighbourhood and village having a properly weighted voice in decisions that affect it.”
