'Special' win delights Drury as Corby show Steel to sink in-form Mickleover

Graham Drury admitted it was 'special' to secure the first win of his second stint as manager of Corby Town.

The Steelmen turned in a strong performance to beat high-flying Mickelover 2-0 at Steel Park on Tuesday night, thanks to an own goal and a late stoppage time strike from Wiktor Gromek.

The win moves Corby up to third from bottom in the Pitching-In Northern Premier League Midlands Division, and sees them move to within five points of safety.

It was a first win for Drury at the sixth attempt since he returned to take charge at Steel Park, and the manager was delighted with his players' performance, and the reaction to Saturday's disappointing 4-0 defeat at Barwell.

"I don't think people understand how much that win actually means," Drury told @chuckmiddleton.

"That's the first win since I have come back, so of course it is special, and Mickleover are a good side.

"We have had to go toe-to-toe and we have actually stood up, whereas I didn't think we stood up at Barwell on Saturday.

"I asked for a big performance and I can't be any prouder of the group.

"They have really fought for me and they put in a proper Corby performance which is great to see.

"I am also so chuffed for the fans because this has been a long time coming.

"We now have a few walking wounded, because they put their bodies on the line and have gone in for tackles that are perhaps 60-40 against.

"That was what we asked for, we asked for a Steelmen performance, and we got that. Every single player put a shift in."

Corby are back in league action on Saturday when they entertain third-placed Shepshed Dynamo (ko 3pm).
