Rushden town centre bar to close as owners thank those who have been ‘part of the journey’ for two years

The General in Rushden has made the decision to close after ‘much consideration’ after opening in the town centre two years ago.

The bar, in College Street, has announced it has ceased regular trading and will be open for one final day on Sunday (November 8).

A post from the business reads: “After much consideration, we’ve made the decision to bring our regular opening hours to an end.

“We want to say a massive thank you to everyone who’s supported The General, joined us for a pint, attended our events and been part of the journey.

“Thank you for everything.”

However, while the bar is set to close, the space will still be available for private hire, parties and special events moving forward.

The General had been set to host its final day trading last Sunday (November 1), but due to ‘unforeseen circumstances’ was unable to do so, and instead will host one, final ‘proper send-off’ on November 8 before ceasing its regular trading.

The General opened in October 2024 under the ownership of Three Hills Brewery, a Thrapston-based brewery of whom The Hopmaster General as it was previously known was a customer.

Billed as a bar with a ‘super chilled atmosphere with a cosy vibe and a friendly space’, but just two years into its life in Rushden the business will cease trading.

Those who wish to use the space for a private booking are asked to email [email protected] with any enquiries.
