'Incredible' long-serving Kettering carnival volunteer Alan Cockshoot steps down as chairman
Long-serving Kettering carnival volunteer Alan Cockshoot has stepped down from his role as chairman after 30 years at the helm.
Alan first became involved with Kettering Carnival in 1974 and has dedicated more than five decades of his time, commitment and enthusiasm to the carnival.
New chairman Andy Annetts paid tribute to Alan for helping to bring the community together and creating ‘lasting memories for generations of families’.
Andy said: “Throughout his time at the helm, Alan has played a huge part in supporting, organising and developing Kettering Carnival, helping to bring the local community together and create lasting memories for generations of families.

“One of Alan’s particularly important contributions has been maintaining the longstanding relationship with Kettering’s German twin town of Lahnstein.
“Through his dedication, he has helped strengthen the links between the two towns and, in particular, their respective carnival celebrations, bringing both communities together through a shared love of carnival and tradition.
“This international connection has been an important part of Kettering Carnival’s identity and something Alan has worked hard to maintain over the years.”
Over the years, Kettering Carnival has raised thousands of pounds for the Locally Registered Blind of Kettering.
Although Alan has now decided to step down as chairman, he will continue to support the organisation.
Andy said: “In recognition of his outstanding contribution and many years of dedicated service, Alan has been awarded the title of honorary president of Kettering Carnival.
“This special recognition reflects the enormous part Alan has played in the carnival’s history and the appreciation felt by everyone involved.
“The Kettering Carnival Committee would like to place on record its sincere thanks to Alan for everything he has given to the carnival over the past 52 years.
“While this may be the end of his chapter as chairman, we are delighted that Alan will remain part of the carnival family. Thank you, Alan, for 52 years of incredible service, friendship and dedication.”
