Plans for changes to operating hours at Northamptonshire recycling centre withdrawn
An application for a recycling centre in Earls Barton to operate for 24 hours a day has been withdrawn.
Re.Group had applied for permission to allow for the ability to operate a recycling centre in Earls Barton 24-hours-a-day in preparation for the government’s deposit return scheme (DRS).
A letter from Heatons – the company who prepared the planning application on behalf of the applicant Re.Group – accompanying the planning documents dated September 2 confirms the withdrawal of the application.
It reads: “Re.Group (Applicant) have requested us to formally withdraw the above application at Earls Barton for the Variation of condition 5

(opening hours) and removal of conditions 11, 12 and 13 (catchment area) of planning permission 11/00018/WAS.”
The move had attracted criticism from local residents relating to the potential disturbance to nearby homes during the night.
Changes to the government’s deposit return scheme will see customers pay a refundable deposit for certain single-use drink containers.
The recycling facilities will be needed to process what is anticipated to be an increase in waste, which prompted the application to align with the national shift.
