Nominate unsung heroes for Wellingborough Citizens' Awards for those who 'go above and beyond' for the town

Nominations are being sought for the annual Wellingborough Citizens’ Awards, a scheme created to shine a light on those who have had a lasting impact on the town.

The annual awards are due to be presented at the town council’s annual general meeting (AGM) and aim recognise the people who are helping shape Wellingborough for the better.

A Wellingborough Town Council spokesman said: “Wellingborough Town Council is proud to have the Citizens’ Awards, celebrating the incredible contributions of individuals, volunteers, and community groups across our town.

“These awards recognise those who go above and beyond to make Wellingborough a better place to live, work, and thrive — our local heroes who make a real difference in the community.

"This is your chance to shine a spotlight on the people and groups who make Wellingborough such a special place. Let’s celebrate their dedication and achievements together.”

Five categories will be represented including community champion, outstanding volunteer, environment champion, equality, diversity and inclusion and outstanding voluntary and community sector organisation. Each will be open to local groups, organisations or individuals who have continued to make a positive difference in Wellingborough.

The deadline for nominations is December 15, and the winners will be announced and honoured at a special ceremony during the annual town meeting on April 21, 2027.

Previous recipients of the Citizens Awards include Freddie Harris of the Wellie Wombles, Jonathan Cartwright from Wellingborough Rugby Club, Dee Baird of Wellingborough Library and Dementia Sings Out.

Serving councillors or ones who have served within the last electoral term are not eligible, and nominations can be made by any person who has links with Wellingborough, as long as they are not related to the nominee.
