Man who lost 14 stone 'proud' to reach his target weight with the help of Wellingborough slimming group

A man who admits he was his own ‘biggest doubter’ has lost more than 14 stone to reach his target weight.

Craig Smith of Earls Barton struggled with his weight for more than 20 years, trying various weight loss programs and diet plans but with no success.

At just over 27 stone, his mum told him that something needed to change.

Craig went to his GP and was diagnosed diabetic, which prompted him to join Slimming World in a bid to lose some weight and improve his health.

And his hard work has now paid off as he finally reached his target weight last month – losing a total of 14st 7.5lbs.

Craig told the Northants Telegraph: “I'm feeling proud, more confident and just slightly overwhelmed, I never believed I could achieve this and was my biggest doubter.

"Lifestyle-wise, I can do so much more with my daughter, there was a time I couldn't get on some rides at Alton Towers and now thoroughly enjoy a theme park or fun fair and my diabetes has gone into remission."

As well as reaching his target weight, highlights during his weight loss journey with Slimming World include being named slimmer of the year, man of the year and achieving the prestigious Club 50 award for losing 50 per cent of his total body weight.

Being part of a slimming group has really helped Craig with boosting his self-esteem and confidence.

He can now fit into clothes that wouldn’t have fit him 19 years ago and is able to do things he never thought he would be able to do again.

Craig has achieved his weight loss with the help and support of the Slimming World group which meets at the Hope Church in Guillemot Lane, Wellingborough.

His group meets on a Wednesday at 5.30pm with consultant Rob Moore.

The support of the group has proved invaluable for Craig and his weight loss journey.
