KGH confirms two more tragic coronavirus deaths

Two more patients who had tested positive for Covid-19 at KGH have died, taking the hospital's death toll to 66.

The deaths - which took place on April 16 and April 17 - were confirmed in NHS England's latest update today (Monday).

The hospital has been contacted for further comment.

They were the only deaths confirmed in Northamptonshire with none at Northampton General Hospital.

The death toll at hospitals in Northamptonshire now stands at 174 - 66 at KGH, 106 at NGH and two recorded by Northamptonshire Healthcare Foundation Trust.

April 3 was the Rothwell Road hospital's deadliest day with seven deaths in 24 hours. At NGH nine patients died in one day on April 12.

Nationally today NHS England said a further 429 people who tested positive for the coronavirus have died, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 14,829.

The actual figure is expected to be much higher with the total not including deaths in care homes and the community.

Earlier today Northampton General Hospital paid tribute to staff member Joanna Klenczon, 34, who died after contracting the virus.

Hospital trust chief executive Sonia Swart said: "Joanna touched the lives of so many people at NGH and she will be missed by everyone who knew or worked with her.

"We are offering our support to our staff during this difficult time whilst we all mourn the loss of one of our team members."
