He regularly helps out at the United Counties league club and is believed to have climbed on to the roof to retrieve stray footballs

A man is fighting for his life after he fell off the roof of a stand at Desborough Town Football Club.

Medics said the 44-year-old victim is critically ill.

Emergency services raced to the club’s R-Inn Stadium on Braybrooke Road, Desborough, after the alarm was raised at about 11.30am on Saturday.

The man, who lives in Desborough, was rushed to the University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire after suffering serious head injuries.

He regularly helps out at the United Counties league club and is believed to have climbed on to the roof to retrieve stray footballs.

A Northamptonshire Police spokeswoman said they are treating the incident as an “accident”.
