The band, which comprises Tom Meighan, Serge Pizzorno, Chris Edwards and Ian Matthews, are currently holed up in a studio recording their sixth LP.

They will play the stadium on Saturday, May 28. It will be their first gig in the city since 2014’s show at Victoria Park.

Pizzorno said: “This has been an unbelievable year for the city and it seemed like the perfect thing to do this summer. We cannot wait to throw the city the greatest party they have ever seen.”

Kasabian have gone from dance-rock outsiders to one of the biggest rock bands in the world, selling out shows around the globe.

Aside from cementing their reputation as one of the planet’s best live acts, they have established themselves through five albums – four of which went straight in the UK charts at number one.

Tickets for next month’s show go on-sale 10am Saturday, April 30, via www.livenation.co.uk and www.ticketmaster.co.uk
