Give your views on proposed term dates in Northants for 2028-29

North Northamptonshire Council is now consulting on the proposed term dates for schools for the 2028-29 academic year.

The consultation is taking place between November 2 and December 31.

NNC does not directly run or manage the vast majority of local schools, as most have converted to academies .

The council says that academies, free, foundation and voluntary aided schools can set their own term dates, although they may choose to adopt those used by the local authority.

It added that, when choosing term dates, the council has, wherever possible, tried to do this in conjunction with neighbouring local authorities.

“However, while proposed dates broadly align, the council cannot guarantee that its term dates will be identical to those of neighbours as there is no formal mechanism for the regional or national setting of school term and holiday dates.”

The proposed term dates for 2028-29 are as follows:

Autumn term 2028

Friday 1 September to Tuesday 19 December 2028

• Half term holiday: 23 October to Friday 27 October 2028

• Christmas holiday: Wednesday 20 December 2028 to Tuesday 2 January 2029

Spring term 2029

Wednesday 3 January to Thursday 29 March 2029

• Half term holiday: Monday 12 February to Friday 16 February 2029

• Easter holiday: Tuesday 3 April to Friday 13 April 2029

• Bank holidays: Friday 30 March and Monday 2 April 2029

Summer term 2029

Monday 16 April to Monday 23 July 2029

• Half term holiday: Tuesday 29 May to Friday 1 June 2029

• Summer holiday: Tuesday 24 July to Friday 31 August 2029

• Bank holidays: Monday 7 May and Monday 28 May 2029

The total number of pupil days includes five days to be selected by schools as additional teacher training days.
