Cockerill was charged with ‘conduct prejudicial to the interests of the game’ following an exchange with Stuart Terheege, the fourth official, in the showpiece clash with Saints at Twickenham on May 25.

His hearing will take place in Coventry on July 1, 37 days after the incident took place.

In contrast, Saints skipper Dylan Hartley was put in front of a disciplinary panel just one day after being sent off in the final.

Hartley was banned for 11 weeks for verbally abusing referee Wayne Barnes, who believes the player labelled him a ‘f****** cheat’.

The hooker was forced to miss the British & Irish Lions tour of Australia and is unable to return to action until the start of the new Premiership season in September.
