NCL SPECIAL: Champions Finedon condemned to narrow defeat by rivals Peterborough

There was everything to play for as Finedon, with three wickets in hand, went into the final over needing 13 to overhaul Peterborough's 263 for eight and claim what would have been their fourth win of the season.

After conceding a single off the first ball, Singh had Mark Wolstenholme caught by David Clarke, but then things swung back in Finedon's favour as Jack Fuller hammered the first ball he faced for six.

That left Finedon needing six to win from the final three balls, but Singh struck again as Fuller was caught by Zeeshan Manzoor and the equation was then six to win from two balls.

Edward Hodgson got a single off the penultimate delivery, leaving Jonathan Dunne, unbeaten on 44, needing to hit the final ball of the match for four to secure a tie, or a six to win.

As it transpired, he could only collect a two to leave his team two runs short.

Singh ended with four for 60 and Nick Green three for 61, while Dunne was left stranded on 46 not out, after Ewan Cox (50) and Daniel Bendon (52) had earlier his half-centuries for Finedon.

Peterborough's innings was built around 57 from Josh Smith.

The tense victory sees Peterborough sitting in third place, just six points adrift of leaders Finedon and second-placed Stony Stratford, who were three-run winners over Rushden & Higham Town in another close contest.

James Hildreth was the main man for Stony, hitting 63 as they were bowled out for 182.

Rushden looked set for victory as they went into the final over needing just seven to win.

But Aadi Sharma produced a brilliant over that saw him concede just three runs and also take the wicket of Sharon Sathyamoorthy for 27 with the penultimate delivery to leave Rushden short on 179 for eight.

Earlier, Chana Ruwansiri hit 60 for Rushden, with Farhad Hassan, Andy Marston and Ben Arnold took two wickets apiece.

Jack Lees hit 75 and Jack Bates 64 as Geddington secured an excellent four-wicket win over Oundle Town.

Mark Hodgson hit 93 and Bill Amas an unbeaten 79 as Oundle posted 242 for seven, but Lees and Bates powered their team to 243 for six and the win.

Loddington & Mawsley's troubles continue after they were thumped by 191 runs by Old Northamptonians.

Max Vesty will have been kicking himself after he was out for 99 as the ONs racked up 294 for nine, with Tom Webb hitting an unbeaten 51 and Anshul Poothi 45.

Webb then turned his attention to bowling and claimed four for 11 as Loddington were rushed out for just 103, Chris Plowright top scoring with 30.

Kislingbury Temperance are up to fifth after they beat Overstone Park by 108 runs.

Zaakir Khawaja hit 77 and Northants man Rob Keogh 69 as Kislingbury were bowled out for 221.

That proved enough as Overstone were shot out for just 113, with County lef-armer Tiaan Louw bagging five for 33.
