Kettering's Faryl Smith will be singing the National Anthem for the Cobblers' play-off final against Exeter - but it won't be quite the same as previous Wembley performances.

The soprano who shot to fame as a finalist in the 2008 series of Britain's Got Talent is no stranger to singing in front of big crowds.

She has performed at Wembley, Twickenham and Wimbledon, but it's going to be different for the 2019/20 EFL League Two play-off final between Exeter City and Northampton Town as Monday's match will be played behind closed doors due to Covid-19.

Faryl told this newspaper it will be a pre-recorded video of her singing the anthem, and added: "Times are very strange at the moment, but I’m excited to be singing again.

"It is also extra exciting as Northampton Town Football Club will be playing."

A spokesman for EFL said: "Faryl will be pre-recording the National Anthem outside Wembley Stadium on Wembley Way with the iconic arch in the background.

"The pre-recording VT will then be shown on the internal big screens in the stadium just before kick off when the players are lined up on the pitch."

She went to Southfield School for Girls and performed in several music festivals before starring in the ITV talent show.
