A runner used to completing ultra marathons is taking on a different challenge during the lockdown - by running through every single street in Kettering.

Super-fit Damian Carr, 36, began his gruelling task in the pouring rain yesterday in Brambleside and aims to cover the whole town over a week in his daily exercise.

He is doing it to raise money for the NHS but had initially put his fundraiser on hold when the lockdown began.

He said: "I thought about it and I was just like 'you know what, let's just do it'.

"I'm not very good at anything else like cooking, writing or singing so I might as well run."

Damian, who works in the spa at Kettering Park Hotel, started running to help with his PTSD after he served in the army in Iraq in 2003.

He now runs ultra marathons and huge distances regularly and competed in a 24-hour race in Belfast - but mistimed his efforts and spent three days in a wheelchair after running for six hours at world-record pace at the start.

Today he aims to cover the Ise Lodge estate and hopes to bring a smile to people's faces, and is encouraging people to give him a wave.

He will battle on throughout the week despite the poor weather forecast.

He said: "I think I picked the wrong week for it!

"But it's all for a good cause and the NHS workers are brilliant."

Damian has already smashed his £100 target, raising more than £300 so far.
