Appeal for help to pay vet bills for Northants rare breed of dog

A fundraiser has been set up to help pay for the treatment of a rare breed of dog whose owner lives in Northamptonshire.

Dylan, a Sealyham terrier, has recently had to undergo surgery to fix a disc herniation.

His owners have insurance but, like a lot of policies, it has a maximum payout which doesn’t stretch to the cost of MRIs and specialist surgery.

Unfortunately, there is a shortfall for his treatment of about £4,000.

The page explains: “Dylan is just four years old and a Sealyham in his prime.

“Unfortunately, he started showing some unsettling symptoms which were tell-tale signs of back issues.

“He suddenly developed a reluctance to manage a small back door step and his gait changed.

“After numerous tests the vet suspected he had grade 2 IVDD (Intervertebral Disc Disease) and suggested an MRI scan.

“This led to a firm diagnosis of disc herniation. So, as result of this, Dylan underwent surgery.

“He’s doing well but still has weakness is the rear legs which is to be expected after surgery.

“While navigating Dylan’s sudden decline, his mum has had her own health issues to deal with and interspersed with vet visits are her own visits to the oncologist.

“Her next chemotherapy will be at the start of November, so her and Dylan will be spending time together, both regaining their strength and finding their feet.

“Our [Sealyham] community is so kind and generous, I was hoping that between us we could help out a fellow Sealy person during their darkest times.

“We wish Dylan all the best for his recovery, and hope that he and his owner can support each other in the coming months, as well as a the love and kindness from the wonderful Sealyham community.”
