Man, 26, jailed for threats with a hammer at Kettering home

A man has been jailed for almost three years after he admitted to making threats at a Kettering property with a hammer.

26-year-old Miles Luke Connors used a hammer to repeatedly hit the door of a home in Fishton Close, Kettering. Police say he could be heard making threatening comments aimed at a man inside the address.

Connors was identified as a suspect and, after a number of enquiries, was arrested and charged with threatening a person with an offensive weapon and criminal damage.

At the sentencing hearing at Northampton Crown Court, a victim personal statement was read out on behalf of the victim.

It said: “What happened that morning was one of the most frightening experiences of my life. Having someone come to my door, hit it with a hammer and make threats towards me left me feeling terrified and powerless in my own home. Since that day, I have struggled to cope with everyday life, and I do not feel like the same person I was before.”

Connors pleaded guilty to the offences at Northampton Crown Court in July and returned on October 16 where he was sentenced to two years and 10 months in prison.

Northamptonshire Police’s lead investigator PC James Bowes said: “This was a terrifying incident for the victim, who was subjected to threatening behaviour at his own home in the early hours of the morning.

“It’s clear from his victim personal statement that the impact of what happened has been significant and long-lasting – affecting his confidence, sense of safety and day-to-day life. Nobody should have to experience this kind of intimidation, particularly in a place where they should feel at their safest.

“We hope the sentence handed down provides the victim with a sense of justice and reassurance that those who commit violent and threatening offences will be held to account and brought to justice.”
