A group of youths were 'spoiling for a fight' before a man was stabbed in Burton Latimer last night (Sunday), neighbours have said.

The victim, a man in his 30s, was attacked after an altercation which started outside a house in Station Road at about 7.20pm.

Armed police were called to the scene and surrounding roads were closed as a 17-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of GBH with intent.

This morning a trail of blood remained across Station Road and into Glebe Road, ending near Glebe General Store.

Uniformed officers have now left the scene and a cordon has been removed, with a team of detectives conducting door-to-door enquiries to try and piece together what happened.

One nearby resident told the Northants Telegraph they believed the incident was related to drugs and that a group of youngsters were 'spoiling for a fight' outside the house where the incident started.

He was taken to hospital with a stab wound to his stomach area but police say he is expected to make a full recovery.

Another resident, who did not want to be named, said: "I heard someone shout 'they've been stabbed, they've been stabbed, call an ambulance'.

"The road was blocked off and at least 10 officers were there."
