Staff self-isolating after Covid cases at Kettering school

Seven members of support staff at Kettering Science Academy are self-isolating after two of them tested positive for coronavirus.

The Deeble Road school has confirmed the two positive cases with five people who work with them also self-isolating.

Principal Tony Segalini moved to reassure the school community and said no students or teaching staff are affected, with lessons continuing as normal.

He said: "All the measures we have implemented adhere to the latest guidance and we continue to do everything we can to minimise the risk for everyone.

"The staff members affected are working from home and will return to Kettering Science Academy over the next week."

As of November 9 there were 19 active outbreaks in Northamptonshire schools and colleges, according to public health officials.

Kettering was the only district of Northamptonshire not to have an outbreak in an educational setting at that time.

Updated figures are due to be released this afternoon (Friday).

The virus forced some schools to temporarily close, including Red Kite Academy in Corby which shut because of the number of staff self-isolating.

Red Kite will re-open next week.
