Five members of staff at Kettering's Tresham College campus have been advised to self-isolate after a colleague tested positive for Covid-19.

Bosses at the Windmill Avenue campus were told of the positive test result last week and a college spokesman said staff have been notified.

They said that the positive test is not thought to be connected to the person's work at the college.

Public Health England (PHE) are investigating and the college is not due to open until next Monday.

After an assessment by the NHS Track and Trace service, and as a precaution, five other members of staff have been advised to self-isolate.

A college spokesman said: "PHE are investigating and are unlikely to seek any further action other than the current measures of distancing that the college has in place.

"[The] college [is] not due open until September 14 and that currently remains unchanged."

Kettering and Corby were added to the Government's 'areas of concern' watchlist on Friday because of a rise in the number of cases, which the county's director of public health put down to young people socialising.

Those who need a test can currently be tested for free at the London Road car park in the town centre.

A testing site was recently at Kettering's Tresham College campus over the August bank holiday weekend.

Its case rate - 697.6 per 100,000 people - is well above the England average of 532.4

More than 200 Kettering General Hospital patients have died after testing positive for Covid-19.
