A big-name stationer is said to have put all of its Corby staff at risk of redundancy.

Staples opened the doors of its UK distribution centre in the Crackerjack warehouse in Mitchell Road six years ago with the promise of 175 new jobs.

But the stationer has been looking for someone to buy-out the remaining ten years on its lease since last August.

The Northants Telegraph has learned that earlier this month all the warehouse's staff were given notice of formal consultation for redundancy. Some have been told that the stationer is shutting the entire warehouse.

Just two years ago the firm announced it was consolidating all of its UK logistics sites into the 50,000 SKU (stock keeping unit) warehouse at Corby. The stationer invested £50m in the Corby site it dubbed its 'super warehouse' and lauded its green credentials including a zero landfill promise.

But the site was too big for just Staples so it helped run logistics for other big-brand names including Adidas and Kwik Fit.

The Northants Telegraph has tried to contact Staples UK on multiple occasions during the past week but calls and messages have not been returned.
