Local RSPB group offers nature lovers interesting programme of talk and events
The Mid Nene Local Group of the RSPB has been in existence for over 50 years and is a welcoming and inclusive collective of members, with a committee proud to continue to offer a varied and intersting programme of events throughout the year.
It is increasingly important for us to be aware of conservation, our precious planet, birds, nature and environment, and the Mid Nene Group provides many opportunities to be with like minded people, at their Indoor Meetings and on a range of Coach outings throughout the year.
On 15th November we have a comfortable coach heading to the wonderful Abberton Reservoir, a Reserve managed by the Essex Wildlife Trust, this is a nationally important body of water which attracts in excess of 40,000 over wintering birds - ducks, geese, swans and waders, and is a brilliant place to see various raptors too!! Excellent visitor facilities including comfortable visitor centre, toilets, shop Cafe and Restaurant with hot and cold food, drinks and snacks. The coach leaves Raunds Sqaure at 8am, and Thrapston Market Place at 8.10am, and we will have a full day on the reserve (Leaving for home around 4pm). You are free to spend the day at your own leisure, or if you would rather there are always opportunities to join with others in small groups. These coach outings are £23 per person. They are a really great day out, and in 2027 we have 5 trips planned including the RSPB Flagship Reserve at Minsmere, and Norfolk's Cley Marshes. Always lots to see, great photographic opportunities and we can promise some good company with enthusiastic birders!

Throughout the year we also offer a range of brilliant speakers at our indoor meetings, in the past year these have included David Lindo the Urban Birder (who has been on Springwatch and the BBC), and Michael Coppleston the Head of RSPB for England.
Our next speaker is Lara Jones (Engagement Officer) from the Beds/Cambs/Northants Wildlife Trust, who is joining us on 19th November, in the Saxon Hall, Raunds, NN9 6LT to talk about the Birds and Mammals of the Nene Valley SPA. A great local interest talk. These friendly meetings start at 7.30pm, are open to all people (no need to be a member) and for £4 per person you will be treated to an engaging and interesting talk with a break for refreshments which are included in the entrance price. Plenty of parking and disabled access, ensuring we are inclusive, and always welcoming!!
It would be really great to welcome some new members and see some new faces. We are now in our 51st year as a group, and we really want to continue to encourage a passion for birds and wildlife well into the future!!!
