We can't hide away, says Steelmen boss Mills

Gary Mills insists no-one at Corby Town can 'hide away' as they face up to their relegation dogfight in the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League Premier Division.

Regardless of what happens in Saturday’s home clash with Workington, which marks the halfway point of the season, the Steelmen will be bottom of the pile on Christmas Day.

Their campaign has shown few signs of life since it started back in August and Mills is still waiting for his first win and has taken just one point since taking over the reins following Tommy Wright’s departure towards the end of October.

Less than 400 fans were on hand for last weekend’s 4-1 home defeat to leaders Rushall Olympic and Mills revealed he came in for criticism from some fans following the loss.

But he insists he will use the critics as motivation as the Steelmen desperately search for a turning point in their season.

They are a massive 12 points adrift of safety heading in the match with Workington.

And Mills said: “It’s not easy and no-one likes to lose.

“I have been quite lucky in my career and I have been fortunate to have won more football matches than I lost as a player.

“So this situation is not something I enjoy. It’s frustrating but we can’t hide away.

“We have come in for some criticism, which I understand. But the more the critics talk, the more determined it makes me to get things right.

“We will train hard tonight (Tuesday) and on Thursday and we will be putting the hours in ahead of the weekend.”

Mills has been chopping and changing his squad in a bid to find the answers and their latest arrival was Tyler Blake, who made his debut on Saturday after joining on loan from Mansfield Town.

“Tyler came highly recommended by (Corby boy and former Kettering Town captain) John Dempster,” the Steelmen boss added.

“It’s difficult for any player to come into this environment at the moment but I thought he did well for us in tough circumstances.”
