Title-chasing Corby looking to bounce back

Joint-manager Ashley Robinson is seeking a positive response from his Corby Town players when they face Aylesbury United at Steel Park this weekend

Ashley Robinson will be looking for his Corby Town players to bounce back when they take on Aylesbury United at Steel Park tomorrow (Saturday).

The Steelmen tasted defeat for only the third time in the BetVictor Southern League Division One Central last weekend as they were beaten 2-1 by 10-man Coleshill Town, despite taking the lead through Jordon Crawford.

The loss saw Corby’s lead at the top of the table cut to five points as they bid to go one better than last season’s play-off final defeat by winning the title and securing the sole automatic promotion place.

Robinson conceded last weekend’s display “wasn’t good enough”.

But he firmly believes there is enough character within the Corby squad to hit back in a big game against fifth-placed Aylesbury.

“Last Saturday wasn’t good enough, it’s as simple as that,” the Steelmen joint-boss said.

“The players have done well for us all season but that game was not where we want to be.

“We have got to put things right but it’s not going to be easy because Aylesbury haven’t lost many games, they are a tough side to play against.

“But I am still confident with what we have got in this squad. There is plenty of character in the dressing-room and there is plenty of desire to win games and win this league but we can’t drop our standards.

“There will be ups and downs but, for the time being, we have got to focus on bouncing back and putting on a performance for our fans.”

James Clifton is in line to make his debut for Corby after joining the club following his release from Nuneaton Borough this week.
