Steelmen now targeting another big run of form

David Bell is hoping Corby Town's 3-0 win over Skelmersdale United can be the catalyst for another good run of form to help them in their bid to avoid the drop from the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League Premier Division.

The Steelmen bounced back from the defeat at leaders Blyth Spartans in impressive fashion as they hit three first-half goals to seal a routine win against their rock-bottom visitors.

Jordon Crawford scored the first two before assistant-manager Bell set up the third before half-time as his free-kick was headed home by Aaron Brown.

The win moved Corby back to within two points of safety after Marine were held to a 0-0 draw at Coalville Town.

And, as they start turning their attention to Tuesday night’s trip to Rushall Olympic, Bell is keen to see his team get themselves on another good run.

“It was a good team performance, especially in the first half I thought we were outstanding,” Bell said.

“The manager (Gary Mills) touched on it before the game, he wanted us to be ruthless in front of goal and I thought we were.

“In the second half they came into it, they had a couple of spells, we started a little bit slow.

“But even with the chances we have had in the second half, no disrespect to Skelmersdale but it could have been six or seven in the end.

“We are delighted with the result. We were on a really good run up until the Blyth game and we fell short there but it was important for us to win as quickly as we possibly could.

“When we were on a good run before, we lost to Coalville but then went on another run after that.

“It’s about building now and seeing if we can get on another run and we have started with a really good win and three points on the board.”

Bell, meanwhile, had a word of praise for two-goal hero Crawford.

“We have spoken to him in recent weeks and he has been magnificent for us,” he added.

“The only thing that was missing from his game really was goals.

“If he can start adding goals like he has done today going forward then I am sure he will have a bright future in the game.”

It was confirmed after the game that striker Andre Johnson has now left Corby after having his contract terminated by mutual consent.
