Gary Setchell hailed his Corby Town players after they produced the perfect response to last week's first defeat of the season at the hands of title rivals Quorn.

The Steelmen travelled to Bedworth United and overcame the setback of conceding a fourth-minute opener to win 3-1 and ensure they stay top of the Pitching-In Northern Premier League Midlands Division.

Goals from Mattew Slinn, Northampton Town loan signing Neo Dobson and 12-goal top-scorer Fletcher Toll sealed the victory, and ensure the Steelmen stay a point clear of Quorn, who were last-gasp 2-1 winners over AFC Rushden & Diamonds.

"We came in for a bit of stick after last week, collectively and individually, and that was the best way to answer that," Fletcher told @corbytownfc.

"To come out and put on a hard-working performance, because that wasn't flashy, it was more graft than anything else, was good and we scored three unbelievable goals.

"I am really happy, although I was disappointed with the start and conceding from a set-piece was horrible, but that was a tough team to pick.

"We had to really get our heads together and went with a team we thought could win the game, and luckily that's what we did.

"After suffering your first loss, that is the way to bounce back, with a 3-1 win."

Dobson, who doesn't turn 18 until December, impressed on his debut after signing on work experience from the Cobblers, and he and Toll combined well together.

"We had two young kids effectively up front playing against an experienced team, and their players leave a little bit on you," said Setchell.

"Bedworth are a good side and I have no doubt they will move higher than what they are once they get going.

"This was an important game, because if we had lost then we would have lost all our momentum, but this keeps it going."

Corby are back in action on Saturday when they entertain fourth-placed Long Eaton United and then next Tuesday they go to Anstey Nomads, who were beaten in last season's play-off final.

"We have two tremendously hard games in Long Eaton at home and then Anstey away," said Setchell.

"They probably don't come any tougher than that, but Saturday's win has given us a bit of a kiss of life and adrenalin."
