Kettering Town to stay ‘humble’ as boss McDonald demands even more

Liam McDonald insists his Kettering Town squad will remain 'humble' in the wake of Saturday's 5-0 thrashing of Stourbridge - and insists 'we are going to get stronger'.

The Poppies emphatically ended a run of three matches without a win, and provided a stunning response to their surprise 2-1 defeat at rock-bottom Stamford last midweek, as they dismantled a Stourbridge side sitting in the relegation zone.

The match was goalless at the break, but the Poppies turned on the scoring style in the second half to win it thanks to goals from James Clifton, Kai Williams, new-signing Eddie Panter, Levi Andoh and Callum Powell.

It left McDonald a happy man as he claimed a win against his former club, but he knows there is still 'a lot of work to do' at Latimer Park as he prepares his team for a tough trip to play-off hopefuls Halesowen Town this weekend.

"It has been tough and Saturday was the icing on the cake," said the Poppies boss. "We want more moments like this, it is what the fans are used to, and the players need to go and produce more often.

"We are going to get stronger, and we are not just going to take this result and think we have made it.

"I have said to the players that we are humble, we know we need new additions, we know we need a bit more physicality within the group.

"George and Fab have got Eddie over the line which was an incredible bit of business because I think he is one of the best there is at this level, and we saw that on Saturday.

"He will score lots of goals for us whether he is playing down the middle or as a wide man.

"We still want additions, and hopefully we will get one or two over the line before the weekend which will make us even stronger.

"Our ambitions will always be as they are until they can't be any more, and at this moment in time we know we have a lot of work to do.

"We are going to work hard on trying to get in what we need, and Eddie is the first part of the jigsaw. We have had some strong players come in and we want to get more in."
