Keith Curle hailed Cobblers' stunning play-off final victory over Exeter City as the 'proudest moment' of his managerial career.

The Town boss ended his promotion hoodoo in sensational fashion as his ruthless side romped to a 4-0 victory over the Grecians at Wembley on Monday evening.

Ryan Watson and Callum Morton struck in the first half before late goals from Sam Hoskins and Andy Williams completed a remarkable win and sealed Cobblers' promotion back to League One.

"I'm proud and I'm proud of the whole club and that includes everyone," said Curle.

"It's my proudest moment as a manager. I've had some good moments, winning the Championship as an assistant with Neil Warnock is up there, but being selfish, as a manager, this is the produest moment.

"I knew I needed a promotion and I don't hide away from that. I told the chairman that when I first came in and fair play to him and to the club because they've given me a platform to be able to work and it's been very enjoyable."

On the game itself, Curle added: "We stick to our principles and our fundamentals and if we do that, we will give teams problems. You have to earn the right to play and to create goalscoring chances.

"The way that we play, we ask questions and we asked Exeter a lot of questions today and we also got the run of the ball.

"We created goalscoring chances and when things go right and when the ball falls in the box, we get numbers forward and we know we have people who can finish and score goals.

"We don't shy away from it and we don't shy away from the way that we play.

"Matt (Taylor) and Exeter deserve credit because the've earned the right to reach the play-off final and they can be very proud of their record. They've got a very good foundation and very good young manager."
