Police warn of diversions and long delays for drivers on Wednesday afternoon

The M1 is closed southbound in Northamptonshire following a crash on Wednesday afternoon.

Police have closed off the entry slip road at Junction 15 while emergency services deal with an incident "involving several vehicles" blocking two lanes near to Newport Pagnell Services.

A spokesman for Northamptonshire Police said: "We are currently assisting Thames Valley Police with an incident on the M1 southbound.

"Our colleagues from Thames Valley and Highways England are working hard to clear the scene but there are long delays folks.

"The M1 is currently closed from Junction 15 south. We are hoping to get the slip road open again shortly but for now I would avoid the area so please follow the diversions and approach with care!"

More delays are also reported on the northbound side with 40-minute tailbacks to Junction 13 at Milton Keynes.

A Highways England spokesman said: "We are working hard alongside the emergency services to get a lane running past the scene to get the trapped vehicles moving. If you are caught in the closure between Junction 15 and Junction 14 please be patient. We will look to clear trapped traffic ASAP."
