Wellingborough Christmas lights family receive random act of kindness

Nicola and Alan Beetson started putting lights on their Torrington Road home three decades ago with son Karl taking the charity fundraising display to new levels.

Last week, Nicola answered their front door to a man who she thought was an Amazon delivery driver.

Nicola, 58, said: "There was a guy at the door and it was dark. I thought it was an Amazon delivery. I could see it was a hamper through the cellophane.

"I asked him 'who's it from?' and he just said 'open the card first' and disappeared."

The card addressed 'to your family, from our family with love' said: "Hello! Please don't worry, you are meant to receive this gift. Three years ago, our son was born too soon, and each year

we have tried to remember him in a different way. This year, we have chosen three random families to share our Christmas with us. In this hamper you will find all number of goodies to

enjoy. So please share the love this Christmas and help us to remember our little boy."

Last year, the Beetson family had been sent an anonymous letter complaining that their lights had made their lives "hell".

Yesterday, the total raised by this year's appeal topped the £2,000 mark with all money raised going to Glamis Hall, Wellingborough.

Nicola's first instinct was to give the hamper away but Karl convinced his mum to keep the gift.

She said: "Karl said 'do you know what mum they have given it to us so we should keep it', so I have given some of the things to our grandchildren.

"I would just like to say thank you very much.

"What a lovely selfless gesture. I wish I knew who they were. There's so much rubbish going on it restores your faith in people."
