WATCH: Beaver family hard at work at Nene Wetlands nature reserve next to Rushden Lakes

Beavers have been busy making their mark at the Nene Wetlands nature reserve – as shown in this footage captured by special cameras located around the site.

Last February, a family of eight beavers arrived from Scotland and set up home at the Nene Wetlands.

Their arrival was a huge milestone as it was the first time beavers have been in Northamptonshire for 400 years.

The family have settled in well and have been busy in recent weeks increasing the number of trees they bring down and the amount of bark stripped as they fatten up and store food in preparation for the winter – as shown in this video shared by the Wildlife Trust for Beds, Cambs and Northants.

The beavers were released last February with help from experts at the Beaver Trust after four years of planning by the Wildlife Trust conservation team.

The project has been supported by Anglian Water through its Get River Positive fund as well as a public appeal.
