Rushden and Higham Ferrers runners backing England Athletics campaign to get more people running
A running group based in Rushden and Higham Ferrers is urging people to dust off their trainers as part of the national ‘Jump Start January’ campaign.
England Athletics, the national governing body for running and athletics in England, is launching a New Year campaign called ‘Jump Start January.’
Designed to encourage runners of all ages and abilities to dust off their trainers for the new year, the spotlight will be placed on its social running initiative, RunTogether, which is focused on creating fun, inclusive and friendly running opportunities.
As part of a nationwide campaign, Diamond Runners, based in Rushden and Higham Ferrers, is calling on residents to get involved.

Diamond Runners has been a RunTogether group since 2019 and their motto is all about encouraging people to get active no matter their ability, age or pace.
With five organised runs taking place each week, this running group has also made a positive impact on their local community by organising litter picks, well-being walks and volunteering at parkruns.
As one of seven qualified Run Leaders at the group, founder of Diamond Runners, Rob Churcher-Upton, said: “Personally, the running community has given me a fantastic social life, new friends and it’s amazing for my overall well-being and health.
"If you’re unsure about signing up for a RunTogether group, my advice is simple - most groups offer free taster sessions, so just go and try one – I promise you won’t be disappointed.

“Your qualified Run Leader will make you feel at ease and welcomed, just as most of us were nervous too when we attended our first session.
"Believe me, you don’t have to be able to run fast or far – so get along to your local RunTogether group and have fun.”
Chris Jones, CEO of England Athletics, said: “Running is more than just a sport. It creates a sense of purpose, belonging and can significantly boost your health and well-being.
"Over 250,000 people have registered to join England Athletics’ RunTogether groups since the programme launched in 2017, and the focus is very much on the social, community, fun and personal fulfilment side of running.
"There will be many people setting New Year’s resolutions and goals for 2026 and our RunTogether groups and network of fantastic Run Leaders are here to help you achieve them wherever you may be in your running journey.”
Led by qualified Run Leaders, Diamond Runners is one of 3,500 RunTogether groups across England.
