Revised plans for new gym in Wellingborough submitted
Plans for a previously-approved ‘fitness well-being centre’ in Wellingborough have been resubmitted as the applicant hopes to occupy a different space in Saxon Court and has applied for a change of use.
The previous application, submitted in March 2025 and later approved by the council in August 2025, outlined plans for a new ‘unique’ gym on the Finedon Road Industrial Estate.
A planning document reads: “Working closely with the council, who are also the landlord, we identified that Unit 3 would be more suitable for a gym. The parking available directly outside the unit meets the requirements of the North Northamptonshire Parking Standards, meaning no additional parking arrangements are required.
"Both ourselves and the council consider Unit 3 to be a better fit for a gym, and the council is happy for us to submit a change of use application for this unit.”

The new space would include changes to the unit including the construction of two showers with the existing two toilets and a 3,000 sq ft gym floor. The next stage will include a mezzanine floor installed for a female and male changing room.
The fresh plans, which note a move from unit 9 in Saxon Court to unit 3, include a business model which remains ‘unchanged’, with the new unit having parking provision for up to 33 cars, two of which are disabled bays.
While there are currently no public comments on the new application, the now-replaced application was well-received by people, with 30 comments supporting the plans, saying it would be ‘amazing for the community’ and bring ‘something that is missing in Wellingborough.’
The applicant says the gym would benefit key areas such as the youth, the ageing population and obesity, and documents suggest the business would create five full-time jobs and 10 part-time vacancies.
