Plans to convert former Wellingborough care home into six flats

A building in Great Park Street, Wellingborough, could become six flats if plans submitted to the council are approved.

The Brambles, which was a care home for people with learning disabilities, had previously occupied the space closed in June 2020.

Now, plans have been submitted to turn the currently derelict space into six one-bedroom flats, including additional bin storage and space for bicycles.

The development would also increase the parking provision on site, upping the spaces from three to seven, to accommodate any potential new residents, and add space for 12 bicycles in an adjoining, covered cycle store.

While plans were originally approved for half a dozen apartments, it has since lapsed, with the new application currently under review by North Northants Council.

A planning document reads: “Renovation of derelict building which has had prior planning permission consent for six residential apartments, which has now lapsed.

"The applicant wishes to first re-ignite a new planning three year window to commence construction. The application seeks to improve upon the prior application by means of a more informed site layout and interior layout to be compliant to latest building regulations.”

The full application can be found online here, or by searching with the reference 26/01644/FUL on the North Northants Council planning portal.
