Parents urged by police to tell children climbing on roofs in Kettering town centre is 'anti-social' and 'extremely dangerous'

Officers from the Kettering Neighbourhood Policing Team are urging parents to speak to their children about the dangers of climbing and jumping on rooftops.

The plea comes after recent reports of young people putting themselves in danger by climbing on the roof of retail premises in Kettering town centre.

Neighbourhood policing officer, PC Tracy Maltby said: “This is not only anti-social behaviour, but extremely dangerous and what may appear to be just a bit of fun could in fact have fatal consequences.

“We’re working with our partners to try to deter this behaviour continuing, and anyone found trespassing on the roof of commercial buildings, causing criminal damage or being abusive to members of the public will be dealt with robustly.

“However, we would also urge parents or guardians to please check where their children are, and if needed, to warn them of the dangers of climbing on properties or playing inside derelict buildings.”
