Pals set to launch new cafe at Corby Railway Station

Two Weldon friends are getting ready to open a new cafe at a Corby transport hub

The spot in the ticket office at Corby Railway Station has been empty for nearly two years after the exit of the previous tenant, leaving a growing number of commuters at the thriving station thirsty.

But now a local duo are in the final stages of setting up a new business in the vacant spot.

Brewbox Coffee is set to launch in the coming months, thanks to Mark Cox and Tom Forshaw, from Weldon.

Mark said: “We met years ago and now our kids go to the same school. We’re two close families.

"I’ve got a shop fitting business so that’s going to help us.

"Tom works for a plant machinery company, so we’re both already busy people.

"But we’ve always wanted to do something together so we set up a limited company a few years ago as a little bit of a side project."

Mark’s wife used to manage the popular Dovecote Buttery so there is catering experience in the family.

He said the plan is to put a kiosk in the station and to employ staff to run it, including a manager.

"It’s really exciting,” he said.

"We’re going to get our coffee from Carrara Coffee in Market Harborough so I’ve been there doing all the tasting.

"We don’t just want to cater for commuters, although the figure we’ve been given is that there are 400,000 passengers there per year.

"We want people to come for the coffee. We’re also looking to use the outside space there and may get an alcohol licence so people can enjoy a prosecco there.

"The people who used to run Bob’s have reached out to us so we may do a collaboration with them."
