Olympic hero joins Weetabix staff for games event and wins gold

Weetabix staff members have gone head-to-head against Olympic golden girl Dame Jessica Ennis-Hill in a series of cereal-based sporting challenges.

Dame Jess visited Weetabix's Burton Latimer and Corby factories as part of the ‘Weetabix all-stars’ campaign, which also features sporting heroes Sir Mo Farah, Ade Adepitan and Leah Williamson.

As well as touring the two plants, she attended a company-wide ‘Town Hall’ meeting and took part in the world’s first ‘Weetabix Heptathlon’ – a fun sports-day style event with colleagues from across the teams.

Putting her competitive nature to good use, she picked up the inaugural titles in the ‘bix and spoon’ and ‘big box hurdles’ race winning ‘gold’ medals and a 99 ice-cream with Bailey’s sauce.

Other events saw Dame Jess attempt to beat volunteer Weetabix colleagues prepare a bowl of the cereal, stack the famous yellow boxes 1.95m (Dame Jess’ highest jump) and other Weetabix-based events.

Francesca Theokli, marketing and innovation director at Weetabix Food Company, said: “We’re an ambitious bunch at Weetabix so having an Olympic legend like Dame Jessica join us was truly inspiring.

"She’s a genuine ‘all‑star’ and we loved seeing her get stuck in with the team at our very own Weetabix Heptathlon.

"It was a privilege to welcome her to Burton Latimer and Corby and we’re excited to carry forward the lessons from her incredible career as we continue making our cereal the choice of champions.”

Dame Jess shared stories from her career and revealed her favourite way to eat the popular wheat biscuit cereal and laughing, gave her reaction to her ‘mini-heptathlon’ performance.

She said: “It was not too great to be honest. I think I won one event out of seven!”

But Dame Jess was impressed by meeting the people who make her family’s favourite cereal – and how does she like it?

She said: “I like Weetabix with warm milk. I’ve always had Weetabix and the kids love it as well.”
