More parking spaces for Wellingborough estate residents as disused garage blocks replaced
Work has started on the third stage of Greatwell Homes’ environmental improvement programme to improve parking across Wellingborough.
A site in Kiln Way was the first to be completed in the third phase by family-run building contractor A. Ainge and Sons, providing local residents with 10 additional parking spaces.
The contractor is currently working on an additional 11 sites within Kilnway and Minvera Way.
A second contractor Pheonix Surfacing Ltd has this week started works on a further seven sites across Gannet and Fulmar Lane on the Hemmingwell estate.

The works are part of a two-year project to transform a total of 34 disused garage sites into smart, block paved parking areas. 15 sites were completed in the first two phases of the programme earlier this year.
The garages on all sites were first demolished between late 2024 and early 2025 and remained fenced off for safety and security reasons.
The project has included digging up the former garage surfaces and resurfacing with block paving, tidying existing boundaries such as brickwork and fencing and installing bollards.
Additionally, gardens previously secured by garages were fenced, and new LED street lighting was installed where the land is owned by Greatwell Homes.
Chris Holloway, executive director at Greatwell Homes, said: “I’m delighted to see the works start on these sites as I know our customers and colleagues will be too.
"Following a consultation exercise at the start of this project, we know additional parking is much needed and will make a positive contribution to the neighbourhoods we work in, whilst also keeping communal areas clean and well maintained.
“I’d like to thank local residents for their patience while we secured the right and appropriate planning permission and while the works are completed.
“Both the council and Greatwell Homes are committed to maintaining the natural environment, and so it’s right we’ve taken care to ensure that any trees or green spaces that are to be altered as part of these works are replaced to ensure that our neighbourhoods continue to thrive and meet Government net zero targets.”
All 19 sites in the final phases are expected to be completed by April 2026.
