Kettering town centre bar closes after ‘declining’ footfall and ‘ever-growing’ costs
A Kettering town centre bar has shut after owners cited declining footfall and ‘ever-growing’ costs.
Aura Bar & Lounge, on the corner of Market Street and Horsemarket, opened in 2013.
Specialising in cocktails with entertainment, the bar even hosted a local WI group.
A statement from the owner said: “After much thought and with heavy hearts, we have made the difficult decision to close Aura Bar & Lounge for good.

“Since opening our doors in 2013, Aura has been a huge part of Kettering's nightlife and we’ve been proud to welcome so many amazing customers through our doors over the years.
“However, in recent times the nightlife in Kettering has become increasingly challenging with footfall declining, the ever-growing costs of running a business, and changes in the town itself.
“We feel the time has come to step away.”
In 2023, Aura won a bid to extend its hours after noise residents had complained about, was found to be coming from the now closed Mental Monkey bar down the street.
The announcement comes as two other nearby town centre venues – The Stitching Pony and Kino Lounge – have been refurbished, with The Old Market Inn currently closed for a refit.
The statement added: “This decision hasn’t been an easy one. But the passion and love we once had for running Aura has gradually faded and we believe now is the right moment to close this chapter.
“We want to say a heartfelt thank you to every single customer who has supported us, and to all the staff past and present who helped make Aura what it was.
“We've made countless memories, and we are truly grateful for every night every event, and every person who played a part in our journey.
“For now, this is the end of Aura - but we will always be proud of what it became.”
