Last Friday, ITV News Anglia announced that Damian was the region's winner after his efforts to organise bucket collections, sponsored events and more, has helped Wicksteed Park raise more than £160,000.

Damian said: "I am absolutely chuffed, it was a massive surprise and caught me off guard.

"I was invited to Wicksteed for a meeting to discuss Christmas plans. I just happened to be sitting on a tea cup when all of a sudden a cameraman, a presenter and my wife and Wicky Bear were there and they said you have won the regional fundraiser award.

"I am chuffed to bits, I was definitely gobsmacked."

Damian will now go forward as a nominee for the national awards, to be held sometime next month.

He said: "All I know is it is next month. It won't be the big thing it normally is because of Covid, but it's still so exciting.

"To win the regional award is amazing, it's brilliant."

The people of Kettering will know just how hard Damian has worked to organise support for Wicksteed Park and how well deserved the award is.
