Free workshops in Kettering, Corby, and Wellingborough to 'build stronger support networks' for children with SEND

Four free workshops will take place to help support families by providing important resources, and giving parents the opportunity to meet other families, and link up with SEND professionals.

The workshops are being hosted by the North Northants SEND Partnership which includes North Northamptonshire Council, Northampton Children’s Trust, Northamptonshire Integrated Care Board, and North Northamptonshire Parent Carer Voices (NPCV), and are aimed at parents and carers of children and young people aged 0–25 with SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities) as well as professionals who work within this field.

Outcomes of North Northamptonshire’s first annual SEND survey will also be discussed.

Claire Baxter, director at NPCV, said: “These events bring families, professionals, and services together to share expertise and build stronger support networks for children and young people with SEND.”

Four workshops are planned for this month, with the first at the council chambers, in Kettering’s Bowling Green Road at 10am until 1pm on November 14.

The second is at Wellingborough Museum in Castle Way on November 17 from 10am until 1pm, and the third taking place at the Brook Weston Teaching Hub in Coombe Road, Great Oakley from 10am until 1pm.

The final workshop will take place on Zoom on November 27 from 7.30pm until 9pm.

Sessions have been held over the last three years, and the 2025 workshops will also hold a discussion about ‘co-production’, whereby families can be a part of improving local services.

Cornelia Andrecut, executive director of children's services, for North Northamptonshire Council, said: “We know these workshops have been very well received by families in the past, with many sharing how valuable they found the opportunity to connect with others in similar situations and discover support they hadn’t previously been aware of.

"I strongly encourage parents of children with special educational needs to attend, along with professionals working in this space. These sessions are a great example of how we can work together to find solutions and strengthen the support available to children and families.

"I would also like to thank everyone who took part in the recent SEND survey. We will be sharing more about the findings during these workshops, and continuing the conversation about how we can improve services collaboratively.”

Places are limited, and will be offered on a first come first served basis, and can be booked online here.
