An thermal scan of the area was carried out to check for hotspots and to prevent the fire from reigniting.

A Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue spokesman said: "Flames and a large quantity of smoke were reported from the premises, which is adjacent to the A6.

"A large mechanical crusher and a small vehicle were involved in the fire, with pumps from Wellingborough and Rushden attending the incident. An appliance from Kettering was also later mobilised to the scene.

"Crews used two breathing apparatus and two hose reel jets to prevent the spread of the fire to a nearby wood storage unit, and to dampen the area once the flames were extinguished.

"Although the fire is now out, a thermal scan is being used to monitor the scene."

Firefighters are left the scene at 12.14pm.
