Delays predicted for motorists as roadworks due on major Kettering route – but it’s confusion for residents
Motorists have been warned of likely delays as roadworks on a major Kettering route take place on the A509 Pytchley Road.
North Northamptonshire Council, working in partnership with contractror Kier Infastructure, will be carrying out resurfacing works from the Orion Way (near Tesco Extra superstore) roundabout to the London Road roundabout (near Wicksteed Park).
Signs on the road are warning of works running from Saturday, July 25, until Tuesday, August 18, from 9.30am to 3.30pm with the ‘road closed for surfacing works’.
Another sign states the road will be closed for high friction surfacing from Wednesday, August 12, to Tuesday, August 18, from 8pm to 6am.

But today (Monday, July 20), members of the public encountered traffic lights and reported it was ‘chaos’.
North Northants Council said: “Full resurfacing works will take place to improve the condition and lifespan of this well used road in Kettering from July 25 to August 21, 2026 (between 9.30am to 3.30pm, Monday to Friday).
“Work will be completed in phases and North Northamptonshire Council are working with local bus companies to minimise disruption on bus routes.
“Due to high traffic volumes and its proximity to Wicksteed Park, the works are being carefully managed.

“Advance signage and diversion routes will be in place, including guidance for visitors using alternative routes where needed.”
But information on another section of the council’s website state the roadworks were due to start on Saturday, July 18, lasting until Friday August 14 with ‘multi-way’ traffic lights.
Letters sent to residents have told people wanting to use the road it will be closed from 9.30am to 3.30pm from Saturday, July 18, until Friday, July 24, with temporary traffic lights.
They have been warned of a full road closure from Saturday, July 25, until Friday, August 21.
Residents have been asked to respect the workforce while the works are in progress.
The letter states: “We will try maintain access for emergency vehicles when safe to do so. Please be assured that pedestrian access will be maintained throughout the works wherever it is safe to do so. During working hours, vehicle access within the works area will be restricted. Our site team will be on hand to assist residents and businesses where required.
“Bus services will be notified of the works and will make alternative arrangements. Please contact your local bus provider for further information
“We kindly ask residents and visitors to avoid parking within the works area to allow us to carry out the works safely and efficiently.
“If you require the use of your vehicle during the works, please ensure it is removed from the works area before 9am each day and kept clear of the working zone until works have finished for the day. Your cooperation will help minimise delays and enable the works to be completed safely.”
North Northants Council has been contacted for a comment.
