A Corby café has reopened their doors with road-trip themed signage and a mini one-way complete with an indoor roundabout to maintain social distance and cheer up customers.

The Mushh Room Café in Pytchley Court raised their shutters for the first time since lockdown but behind the scenes co-owners Matt Lapsley and Emma Wilkie, who is also the chef, had been working on their post-lockdown strategy.

In order to offer a sit down and takeaway service as well as their home deliveries, Matt, a steel fabricator, reconfigured the café's layout, and created the indoor street scene along with the bespoke signs.

Emma said: "We thought how we could follow all the rules but make it a bit different and make people smile. There's too much doom and gloom.

"Matt's a genius. He's made all the screens and re-used some of our table legs to make the signs. We've also put in a carvery unit that we serve people from.

"We've opened properly and followed all the rules. We really take our social distancing seriously so that people feel comfortable."

The one-way system takes the customers round to the new glass-fronted counter where hungry punters can choose their favourite fry-ups.

Celebrating one year in business this month, the cafe hit the headlines with its Full - UK breakfast, a meal designed to reflect the Scottish, Irish, Welsh and English origins of Corby pioneers.

But diners could get their hands on their favourite food during lockdown as the café diversified.

Emma added: "We've kept going throughout lockdown offering deliveries but now we're back with sit-down meals and takeaways.

"The government has supported us, but now we're asking people to use their local businesses."
