BBC Radio Northampton DJ raises hundreds for Children in Need by smashing static bike challenge

BBC Radio Northampton presenter Wayne Bavin smashed his challenge to cycle 100 miles in 12 hours on a static bike for Children in Need.

The Afternoon Show host pedalled 117 miles in total and finished live on air on (Friday, November 13), raising hundreds of pounds.

He started Bavin's Big Bikeathon at 6am on the hi-tech Watt bike from the University of Northampton and went on a virtual tour of the county.

Wayne said: “The bikeathon was okay to begin with but as the day went on, I started to ache all over. The worst pain was in my back side, which I had been warned about!

“Completing the challenge on air was a challenge but one I’m glad I did – for a charity so close to my heart.

"I have to thank the sports science department at the University of Northampton for lending us the equipment, my wonderful colleagues at BBC Radio Northampton, and of course the listeners for the lovely messages and donations which really spurred me on.”
