A county tennis club is urging people to pick up their racquets and balls and get active to beat the winter and Covid blues.

Oundle Tennis Club is offering a 40 per cent discount on membership from now until the end of April to encourage more people to get back to the courts.

The club wants to encourage people to take up exercise for physical and mental wellbeing.

Jason Atkinson, club chairman, said: "Tennis is a fantastic sport. As well as being good exercise burning up to 1,000 calories per hour, it can be as social or as competitive as you choose."

The club has seen membership increase this year and has recently upgraded all five full-sized and two mini courts. Free-to-use floodlights allow play until 9.30pm.

A club spokesman said: "Tennis has been one of the sports least restricted by the current pandemic and considered a low risk sport in terms of Covid-19 transmission.

"Regular club sessions, tournaments and local leagues provide opportunities for those of all standards and ages to play throughout the year.

"Members can also book courts to play whenever suits their diary and can bring a guest for a small fee or book the ball machine as an opponent.

"Those wanting to improve their game can access the busy coaching programme for individuals and groups, led by coach James Muir."

Oundle Tennis Club in Occupation Road has over 300 members, ranging from four to 84 years.
