Hospital governors play an important role at Kettering General Hospital.

There are 25 governors on the KGH Council, including 13 public elected governors representing the four districts in which the majority of patients live: Kettering, Corby, Wellingborough and East Northants and one governor representing the rest of the UK.

A key role of the council of governors is to hold the non-executive directors, both individually and collectively, to account for the performance of the board of directors and to represent the interests of NHS foundation trust members, staff and the public.

The governors at KGH have teamed up with the Northants Telegraph to give our readers an insight into their role and the work they do.

Lead governor professor Peter Woolliscroft, who looks after the Kettering area, has written the first in a series of pieces about the governors which we will be bringing to you in the coming weeks.

Prof Woolliscroft said: "Thank you for taking the time to read this early edition of Governor Weekly News, this is intended to inform readers of what the hospital governors are up to and how you can engage with them.

"As governors, our aim is to act as a communication link between you the reader, members of the trust and the trust management team.

"We want to use this vehicle to keep you up to date with matters in the trust which may not be set out in any other forum.

"Each governor approaches members in a slightly different manner, some use patient groups attached to GP surgeries other meet in community settings and interest groups.

"In future weeks you will read how individual governors engage, ideas they have to reach more members and seek your opinion on current issues around the trust such as news of the proposed new hospital build, how the digital hospital programme will affect you, the patient.

"So please take advantage of this opportunity to become more involved and contact your local governor.

"Governors cover areas such as Wellingborough, Coby, East Northants and Kettering, please visit the hospital website to see who they are."

The Northants Telegraph will be hearing from more of the governors in the coming weeks and if you have any questions to put to them, email them to [email protected]
